Do it Yourself Economies Of Care
This is a call to action! Anarchist networks of care are growing through the city like vines, whispering stories of resilience and resistance. At UnderLab, we become agents of these networks.
“Zu Verschenken” describes a diy culture of local exchange , a simple act whereby objects are shared from home to home, in a process bypassing capitalistic urges of monetary exchange. The item gathers new value through the relationship it forms with its new “owner” and in an age of mass consumerism, such an act of care for a stranger is not insignificant. Slipping effortlessly through the thresholds that govern private space, Zu Verschenken objects collect stories on their ways and thus become the start point for the group exploration.
Through the four week residency, the local streets become an extension of the studio as the residents work with found materials and emergent processes to explore themes of exchange, value and ownership.
